Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Wisdom teeth are normally your last adult teeth to arrive, usually between the ages of 17 & 24. Sometimes, as your wisdom teeth come through, they can cause you problems. The term used to describe wisdom teeth that don’t come through normally is ‘impacted’. Two reasons for this are a lack of space, or other teeth being in the way.
For most people, impacted wisdom teeth cause no problems at all, but some people can suffer problems such as inflammation of the surrounding gum, a higher risk of tooth decay, gum disease in other teeth, and jaw pain.
If necessary these teeth may require removal and more often than not a surgical approach is required. If you are concerned about your wisdom teeth then a simple full mouth radiograph, known as an OPG can tell us if you have them and show us where they are placed. We can then decide what course of action is required, if any.
